What is Botox?
Botulinum Toxin (eg. BOTOX™, Dysport™) is a wrinkle-relaxing treatment which can dramatically soften lines of facial expression, frown lines and crows feet in both men and women, without surgery, scars or recovery time. Botox is very commonly used in the upper face to reduce wrinkles , but it is also successfully and safely used to treat excessive underarm sweating, as well as bruxism (tooth grinding), migraines, facial asymmetries, gummy smile and sagging jawline.
How early can I start Botox?
It’s important to remember that Botox is a preventative treatment, therefore it is best started before static facial lines and wrinkles have set in. There is no magic age where one would start using botulinum toxin. It depends on your skin quality, lifestyle and habits, and much more. In general, I would advise that women start using preventative procedures in their early 30s onwards.
How often do I need Botox?
Botulinum toxin injections generally last for 3-4 months, but in some people, the effect can last upto 6 months. We recommend injections every 3-4 months to maintain the result.
What is dermal filler?
Dermal fillers are smooth injectable gels comprised of hyaluronic acid (HA). HA imitates a sugar molecule which occurs naturally in your body's skin cell production. When we inject this substance into your skin, it fills in space where you've lost volume. HA also attracts water, so the areas which have been injected will become more hydrated — leaving you fresh-faced and youthful-looking.
Dermal fillers are used to help restore youthful contours to the sagging or ageing face, with immediate, and long-lasting results.
What is lip augmentation?
Lip fillers add volume and hydration to your lips. Our aim is to subtly enhance the natural shape, size, and structure of your lip to create a fuller shape, for softer, plumper lips. The most important part of lip augmentation is the creation of a natural cosmetically pleasing result. A successfully sculpted lip should not attract the attention of having been “done” and that is what we are good at! In addition to your lips, you may also be advised to include treatment of the peri-oral area as well (eg. the skin around the mouth and lips) to address fine lines and wrinkles (smokers lines, barcode lines, marionette lines etc).
Why do I need cheek augmentation?
Cheek augmentation is the most popular treatment at our clinic, and here’s why…. Loss of volume in the cheeks can have a huge impact on the rest of the face. Everything shifts downwards, jowls appear and you start to look permanently unhappy and tired. To lift the skin, restructure the face, and restore the lost bone and fat volume, we augment the cheeks first, before addressing other areas of the face. Cheek fillers give a beautiful and natural cheekbone contour, and help to lift other areas of the face. By far, our most favourite injectable treatment!
What is profile balancing?
Profile balancing or Profile Harmonization combine the use of dermal fillers in several areas in order to balance out your features, especially in profile. Treating patients one-dimensionally can sometimes have an adverse effect on their facial harmony and profile. It usually involves correcting of a set-back chin into the correct ratio with the nose, lips, cheek and jawline contour, in order to provide reharmonization of your side profile. A balanced and proportional facial profile constitutes the foundation of an attractive face, and is fast becoming a popular treatment. Profile balancing makes a younger face more beautiful, and an older face more youthful.
What are skinboosters?
Skinboosters are a lightweight hyaluronic acid which are injected superficially into the skin using micro injections, to gradually improve the skins smoothness, elasticity and appearance, for a radiant long lasting glow. From our 20s onwards, our collagen producing cells, called fibroblasts, slow down in the production of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid, resulting in loss of firmness, fine lines and wrinkles, dehydration and overall poor skin quality. Skinbooster injections stimulate the fibroblasts to increase the production of these natural skin plumpers and moisturisers, and the hyaluronic acid acts as a plumping and firming agent giving your skin a more youthful, radiant glow from within. Skinboosters are ideal for anyone wanting a pick me up for tired dehydrated skin, with fine lines and wrinkles, but not necessarily wanting volumizing with filler, and usually a course of 3 treatments 2-4 weeks apart are required for best results.
Who is eligible for injectable treatments?
As we age, our skin loses the ability to 'bounce back', and begins to sag. This can be a source of distress for some. At Dental & Facial Aesthetics, we believe in the philosophy of “less is more”, therefore we encourage our clients to begin their injectable journey at the first signs of wrinkles, skin sagging and ageing, so that we can maintain soft youthful contours without overinjecting, for a refreshed, natural look. At your consultation, Dr Mitha will advise which anti-ageing injectable treatments are most suitable for you.
Is it painful?
Botulinum toxin and dermal filler injections are well tolerated in most individuals, and where required, a topical numbing cream will be applied before the procedure.
What are the risks/side effects involved?
Facial injectables are safely and commonly performed on a daily basis worldwide, and in the right hands, carry minimal risk and side effects. Dr Mitha is qualified and trained in the administration of facial injectables. Most common side effects are associated with the site of injection, ie. pain, bruising, swelling, redness. Certain procedures carry different risks than others, and all risks and side effects will be discussed with you prior to your procedure, where you will have the opportunity to address any queries or concerns.
Is there any downtime?
Generally, there is minimum to none downtime associated with most injectables, and you can resume normal activities almost immediately.
