Skin Peels
Skin peels remove dead surface skin cells to reveal the new layer underneath. They also promote collagen growth and regeneration leaving you with a visibly brighter, more even skin tone. Peels can be used to treat a specific skin concern such as sun damaged skin, pigmentation, acne, scarring, or for overall skin rejuvenation and anti-ageing benefits. What is a skin peel?

Skin peels are a technique used to improve and smooth the texture of the skin, by removing the outermost layers of the skin in a controlled manner, using a chemical solution. At Dental & Facial Aesthetics, we also offer a herbal peeling solution called Dr Schrammek Green Peel Ô, which uses herbal technology to restore the skin radiance.

Skin peels are used to treat specific skin concerns such as sun damaged skin, hyperpigmentation, acne, scarring, fines lines, wrinkles and uneven skin tone. They are also great for overall skin rejuvenation and brightening, and have an anti ageing benefit. Some of our regular clients will sometimes book a skin peel before an upcoming event like a wedding, for that red-carpet glow.

What type of peels are available?

There are many types and brands of skin peels, but essentially they all contain similar ingredients (eg, glycolic acid, phytic acid, gluconolactone, salicyclic acid etc). Different skin concerns require peels with different active ingredients.

Your clinician will choose the correct peel for your skin type and concern. It is important not to try to do skin peels on your own, without professional consultation.

Who would benefit from a skin peel?

Skin peels can be done in men and women, and in adults and teens. Chemical peels are recommended to patients with open pores, or dull, tired skin, where there is a loss of glow. Patients with darker skin should proceed with caution, as they are at higher risk of post inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and should only do peels under professional advice and supervision.

Are skin peels painful?

Generally skin peels are very comfortable, but you may experience some mild discomfort, burning and tingling during the procedure, depending on the type and depth of peel used.

What can I expect after the procedure?

Post procedure effects are very dependant on the type of peel used, the depth of the peel and how well your skin is prepared for the peel. You may have some redness after the procedure, almost like a mild sunburn. Expect some mild flaking and peeling of your skin for upto 5 days after the peel, as the skin rebuilding process proceeds. You may have an acne flare due to deep pore cleansing. Some patients may experience temporary spots of hyper- or hypo-pigmentation, which usually resolves itself. Deeper peels such as TCA and Cosmelan/Dermamelan have a more significant downtime of 3-5 days. You will need to avoid excessive sun exposure after your peel and will be required to wear sun protection.

How often do I need to do peels?

Depending on your skin concern, you may be prescribed a course of 5 or more peels, usually done 2-4 weeks apart. Maintenance peels are advised every 3-4 months.

What does it cost?

Peels start at P650 . Quotations will be given to you at your consultation depending on the type and number of peels that you require.

Microneedling
Micro-needling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a highly effective, yet minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that treats skin concerns such as acne scars, by stimulating collagen production. Skin-needling makes tiny, precise punctures in the superficial layers of your skin. This prompts your body to naturally produce more collagen and elastin fibres, resulting in radiant skin.

What is a microneedling?

Microneedling involves using a “pen-like” device with many tiny needles to create controlled injury or punctures in the skin. The depth of these punctures can be adjusted according to the indications of treatment (eg, scar treatments require deeper needle depths whereas general skin health requires less needle depth). Microneedling is also an excellent way for us to introduce active ingredients like hyaluronic acid to the deeper levels of the skin where they are needed the most.

Who would benefit from microneedling?

Anyone can do microneedling, it particularly suited for patients with acne scars, pigmentation and fine lines. Patients who have had recent retinol treatment (eg Roaccutane) or who are prone to keloid scars should not do microneedling. Microneedling is often combined with other treatments to enhance the results.

Is microneedling painful?

Prior to your appointment, you will be provided with topical anaesthetic which can be applied 1-2 hours before the procedure. The procedure is comfortable and pain levels are tolerable.

What can I expect after the procedure?

Depending on the depth of needling done, you may have some pin point bleeding. Your skin will feel hot and may be red. The skin usually feels dry and rough for 3-5 days after the procedure. You can expect to see an improvement in skin smoothness and radiance after 1 weeks, and it continues to improve into the 2nd week onwards. You will need to avoid excessive sun exposure for at least 2 weeks after your procedure and will be required to wear sun protection.

How often do I need to do microneedling?

In order to achieve the best results, at least 3-5 sessions are required, 4-6 weeks apart. We have discounted prices on packages of 3 or more sessions.

What does it cost?

Prices per session start at P1800. Quotations will be given to you at consultation depending on the number of sessions that you require.

Injectables
We use a combination of botulinum toxin and dermal fillers to help soften facial lines and wrinkles, and to treat loss of volume in the cheeks, temples, under eye hollows (tear trough), and in the lower face, including sculpting the lips. We use safe, FDA and CE approved products which are reputable and long lasting.

What is Botox?

Botulinum Toxin (eg. BOTOX, Dysport) is a wrinkle-relaxing treatment which can dramatically soften lines of facial expression, frown lines and crows feet in both men and women, without surgery, scars or recovery time. Botox is very commonly used in the upper face to reduce wrinkles , but it is also successfully and safely used to treat excessive underarm sweating, as well as bruxism (tooth grinding), migraines, facial asymmetries, gummy smile and sagging jawline.

How early can I start Botox?

It’s important to remember that Botox is a preventative treatment, therefore it is best started before static facial lines and wrinkles have set in. There is no magic age where one would start using botulinum toxin. It depends on your skin quality, lifestyle and habits, and much more. In general, I would advise that women start using preventative procedures in their early 30s onwards.

How often do I need Botox?

Botulinum toxin injections generally last for 3-4 months, but in some people, the effect can last upto 6 months. We recommend injections every 3-4 months to maintain the result.

What is dermal filler?

Dermal fillers are smooth injectable gels comprised of hyaluronic acid (HA). HA imitates a sugar molecule which occurs naturally in your body's skin cell production. When we inject this substance into your skin, it fills in space where you've lost volume. HA also attracts water, so the areas which have been injected will become more hydrated — leaving you fresh-faced and youthful-looking.

Dermal fillers are used to help restore youthful contours to the sagging or ageing face, with immediate, and long-lasting results.

What is lip augmentation?

Lip fillers add volume and hydration to your lips. Our aim is to subtly enhance the natural shape, size, and structure of your lip to create a fuller shape, for softer, plumper lips. The most important part of lip augmentation is the creation of a natural cosmetically pleasing result. A successfully sculpted lip should not attract the attention of having been “done” and that is what we are good at! In addition to your lips, you may also be advised to include treatment of the peri-oral area as well (eg. the skin around the mouth and lips) to address fine lines and wrinkles (smokers lines, barcode lines, marionette lines etc).

Why do I need cheek augmentation?

Cheek augmentation is the most popular treatment at our clinic, and here’s why…. Loss of volume in the cheeks can have a huge impact on the rest of the face. Everything shifts downwards, jowls appear and you start to look permanently unhappy and tired. To lift the skin, restructure the face, and restore the lost bone and fat volume, we augment the cheeks first, before addressing other areas of the face. Cheek fillers give a beautiful and natural cheekbone contour, and help to lift other areas of the face. By far, our most favourite injectable treatment!

What is profile balancing?

Profile balancing or Profile Harmonization combine the use of dermal fillers in several areas in order to balance out your features, especially in profile. Treating patients one-dimensionally can sometimes have an adverse effect on their facial harmony and profile. It usually involves correcting of a set-back chin into the correct ratio with the nose, lips, cheek and jawline contour, in order to provide reharmonization of your side profile. A balanced and proportional facial profile constitutes the foundation of an attractive face, and is fast becoming a popular treatment. Profile balancing makes a younger face more beautiful, and an older face more youthful.

What are skinboosters?

Skinboosters are a lightweight hyaluronic acid which are injected superficially into the skin using micro injections, to gradually improve the skins smoothness, elasticity and appearance, for a radiant long lasting glow. From our 20s onwards, our collagen producing cells, called fibroblasts, slow down in the production of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid, resulting in loss of firmness, fine lines and wrinkles, dehydration and overall poor skin quality. Skinbooster injections stimulate the fibroblasts to increase the production of these natural skin plumpers and moisturisers, and the hyaluronic acid acts as a plumping and firming agent giving your skin a more youthful, radiant glow from within. Skinboosters are ideal for anyone wanting a pick me up for tired dehydrated skin, with fine lines and wrinkles, but not necessarily wanting volumizing with filler, and usually a course of 3 treatments 2-4 weeks apart are required for best results.

Who is eligible for injectable treatments?

As we age, our skin loses the ability to 'bounce back', and begins to sag. This can be a source of distress for some. At Dental & Facial Aesthetics, we believe in the philosophy of “less is more”, therefore we encourage our clients to begin their injectable journey at the first signs of wrinkles, skin sagging and ageing, so that we can maintain soft youthful contours without overinjecting, for a refreshed, natural look. At your consultation, Dr Mitha will advise which anti-ageing injectable treatments are most suitable for you.

Is it painful?

Botulinum toxin and dermal filler injections are well tolerated in most individuals, and where required, a topical numbing cream will be applied before the procedure.

What are the risks/side effects involved?

Facial injectables are safely and commonly performed on a daily basis worldwide, and in the right hands, carry minimal risk and side effects. Dr Mitha is qualified and trained in the administration of facial injectables. Most common side effects are associated with the site of injection, ie. pain, bruising, swelling, redness. Certain procedures carry different risks than others, and all risks and side effects will be discussed with you prior to your procedure, where you will have the opportunity to address any queries or concerns.

Is there any downtime?

Generally, there is minimum to none downtime associated with most injectables, and you can resume normal activities almost immediately.

How often do I need dermal filler?

Depending on the area treated, and the type of filler used, dermal fillers can last from 6 months to 18 months.

What does it cost?

Botox and filler costs vary according to your treatment needs, and are given at consultation.

Anti-Ageing
We all like to think that we will age gracefully, however the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and loss of facial volume as we age can lower our self-esteem. Many of these ageing concerns can be significantly improved using various products and procedures. At DFA, we believe in consultation first, treatment later. At your consultation, Dr Mitha will assess your skin and face and provide you with a holistic treatment plan specific to your needs.
